VO Chidambaranar port (formerly Tuticorin port) has created a new record by handling 1.47 lakh tonne of cargo in a single day on February 14, thus surpassing the previous record of handling 1.39 lakh tonne on August 31, 2013.
Some of the major cargoes that contributed to the record achievement include industrial coal, thermal coal, containerised cargo, rock phosphate and furnace oil, says a press release from VOC Port Trust.
S Anantha Chandra Bose, Chriaman, VOC Port Trust, requested all stakeholders to continue the same level of performance to achieve the shipping ministry’s cargo traffic target of 32 million tonne and container traffic target of 5.47 lakh twenty foot equivalent units for 2014-15, says the release.
