L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail, a subsidiary and a special purpose vehicle of the L&T Infrastructure Development Projects, which recently wrapped up financial closure for the Rs 15,000-crore Hyderabad metro rail project, will start construction work within a month.
“We will start handing over land to L&T in fifteen days time in a phased manner and the actual construction work could start in a month's time,” Mr N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd, a Government of Andhra Pradesh enterprise, told presspersons here.
It will start handing over the required land for the eight km Nagole-Mettuguda stretch and Miyapur-Ameerpet portion of the metro rail project.
Construction work will be taken up first on these two stretches, he said, adding that the design work is being done simultaneously and tendering process for rolling stocks is currently under way.
One of the critical areas identified is supply of coaches, with L&T estimated to require about 200 coaches initially. L&T will start placing orders for coaches from overseas suppliers by September this year, with the coaches likely to arrive in 20-24 months
L&T, which signed the concession agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh on September 4, 2010, has already submitted a performance guarantee of Rs 360 crore to the State Government.
The pre-construction works of the project has already started, and the soil testing and topographical surveys have been completed in most locations along the alignment and conceptual engineering is nearing completion.
