Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that job seekers must be transformed into job creators who can set up businesses across the country and boost economic activities.

"Till when will Dalits and tribals wait for jobs and till when can the government give them jobs," he said on Tuesday at the launch of the Stand Up India scheme, stressing that job seekers must be transformed into job creators.

The scheme aims to promote entrepreneurship among persons from Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe and Women by providing loans between ₹10 lakh and ₹ 1 crore.

The Prime Minister said that under the scheme 1.25 lakh bank branches would be expected to lend every year to at least one Dalit or tribal and one woman entrepreneur each in their service area.
