Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Ujjwala beneficiaries across the country, through video conference, on Monday.
Ujjwala is the Centre’s flagship scheme for disbursing cooking gas connections.
An official statement said that three Ujjwala beneficiaries were present at each of over 600 centres for this interaction.
Modi said that 69 per cent villages in India now have 100 per cent LPG penetration, while 81 per cent villages have more than 75 per cent LPG penetration.
In a series of tweets, Modi said, “Ujjwala Yojana has strengthened the lives of the poor, marginalised, dalits, tribal communities. This initiative is playing a central role in social empowerment. LPG panchayats are being held across India, where key information regarding Ujjwala Yojana, safety measures are discussed.”
Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan also tweeted saying, “In the last 4 years, our Govt. has released 10 crore LPG connections increasing the LPG penetration to 81 per cent households in the country. A stark contrast to 13 crore LPG connections released since the last 60 years.”
“To encourage the sustained use of LPG amongst beneficiaries, 1 Lakh PM LPG Panchayat’s have been planned across the country to share mutual experiences and educate women on the safe usage of LPG,” Pradhan added.
