Reporting on sustainability issues should be made mandatory for Indian companies, said Suresh Prabhu, Chairperson, Council on Energy, Environment and Water, Government of India.
“Some companies do it voluntarily but we should have mandatory integrated reporting of both financial and sustainability issues,” said Prabhu at an event organised by The Energy Resources Institute.
Prabhu said that companies are responsible not only to their shareholders but also the stakeholders living in and around the factories.
“India should take the lead in creating a mechanism for integrated reporting. We should develop a model specific for the Indian concept,” he added.
