India will get a fresh update on the situation in Maldives which has witnessed political turmoil for the past couple of months when the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Mr Abdul Samad Abdulla, meets his Indian counterpart here tomorrow.
The Maldives Foreign Minister arrives here on his first visit abroad and is scheduled to meet the External Affairs Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, for talks tomorrow, official spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr Syed Akbaruddin, said.
Maldives plunged into political turmoil after Mr Nasheed, the country’s first democratically elected President, resigned on February 7 in what he claims was a coup. The new regime is headed by Mr Nasheed’s former deputy, Mohammed Waheed Hassan.
Mr Nasheed had said that he will visit India in the middle of this month and meet various political leaders.
