The new global workplace scenario requires excellent communication skills. Those who can communicate effectively succeed in going to the top over others, said Mr Ramesh Sundarajan, Chief Executive Officer, Innova Global, Bangalore.
Delivering the inaugural address of the Business Line Club by the Department of Management Studies, Francis Xavier Engineering College, part of SCAD Group of Institutions, on ‘Success through effective communication', here recently, he said that, “we all are born communicators but only a few are able to communicate effectively'.
A combination of verbal and body language in transforming a thought in a clear and simple manner across people, effective communication involves pre-thinking and appropriate emotions in performance, Mr Sundarajan said. He said that many fail to develop the skill, as they tend to build barriers and inhibitions around themselves lacking in self-confidence. He said that if only everyonelearnt to constantly strive to improve and consistently look for opportunities, luck starts looking at them. In the marketplace, before selecting any one for an assignment, the proactive attitude and behaviour in the person for the assignment is assessed and shortcomings if any, is made up through training and exposure, he added emphasising that proficiency in language, especially English language is a must and reading and listening are pre-requirements for effective communication. Management students, more so, are expected to acquire this prowess, he said. Dr K. Jafar Ali, Educational Consultant-SCAD Group of Institutions, who spoke earlier, stressed on the need to look for quality in one's pursuit to improve one's self and succeed in life.
