In a late evening development, Maruti Suzuki said that some workers at its Manesar manufacturing facility near Gurgaon had gone on a strike from Saturday. The company, however, did not mention the reason behind the strike or the demands made by the workers.
“Few workers had stopped work at our Manesar plant. The management and the unions are currently in discussions in order to resolve the matter,” a company spokesperson told Business Line .
However, operations at the company's other facility at Gurgaon is believed to have not been affected.
Maruti Suzuki's assembly line at Manesar has an annual capacity of over three lakh units. On an investment of Rs 3,625 crore, it is building two more assembly lines at the same site which will be operational by next year. It has also announced a third site for its seventh assembly line near Sanand, Gujarat, where it hopes to make up to 20 lakh units a year at full capacity.
