Mexico has established an Honorary Consulate in Chennai today with jurisdiction over South India. Formally announcing the opening of the Honorary Consulate, Ambassador of Mexico to India Melba Pria said this marks the recognition of the region for its huge potential in agriculture and manufacturing. The Chennai consulate will have jurisdiction over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Mexico also has offices of the Honorary Consuls in Mumbai and Kolkata. India-Mexico bilateral trade is estimated at $6 billion in 2015. Ramkumar Varadarajan, Managing Director, Shri Govindaraja Textiles, a part of the Jayavilas Group, was appointed the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Chennai.
