Waste management should be a social responsibility first and then a business proposal and companies should move towards zero waste discharge.
This was among the observations made at the Waste Management Summit organised by the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.
Ayi Vaman N. Acharya, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, said: “Now, industries are giving more priority to waste management as it is not only for sustainability, but also for providing new business opportunities. By creating more awareness through schools across Karnataka, our department has succeeded in bringing down waste during the Ganesha Festival and use of crackers by 60 per cent during Diwali.”
Pradeep Bhargava, Chairman, Environment & Recycling Council, CII-Godrej GBC, said “we live in a disposable culture and so recycling and reusing are more important than before”.
