The Government has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Law and Justice to operationalise the National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms.
The move comes in the wake of differences between the Government and civil society members in the draft Lokpal Bill. The latter wanted the higher judiciary to be included within the Lokpal's ambit.
According to an official release, the National Mission will focus on improvement in administration of justice and justice delivery and legal reforms in the entire country. “It will address the needs of all sections of stakeholders in a mission mode approach”, the release added.
The mission, spanning five years from 2011-16, would focus on two major goals, namely increasing access by reducing delays and arrears in the judicial system, and enhancing accountability through structural changes and by setting performance standards and capacities.
