A national seminar on ‘Modernisation of Libraries’ will be held by the Vidya Prasarak Mandal at Thorale Bajirao hall here on Friday.
Dr Vijay V. Bedekar, chairman of the institute, said more than 300 delegates from across the country will attend this technical conference in India.
“Computerisation and ever-increasing emphasis on knowledge-based thinking have crept into all walks of life, such as banks, hospitals, hotels, travel and tourism, commerce etc. Libraries were one of the earliest to join this trend.
In India, today even small colleges and university libraries are computerised and networked,” Dr Shakuntala Singh, convenor of the seminar, said.
“Web resources and net-based information services are integral parts of library culture. If not now, in the next few years, even electricity supply situation will improve. Then computerisation and networking will reach 100 per cent implementation,’’ she said.
