The Finance Ministry today said that India has not received any request for assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to bail out the European nations from debt crisis.
“No such request has been received from the IMF to help in saving Europe from a fresh debt crisis,” the Minister of State for Finance, Mr Namo Narain Meena, said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
There have been no bilateral level talks to bail out the European countries, he said, adding that the G-20 and BRICS are having deliberations at multilateral level to help them combat the crisis.
“The Ministry of Finance is not considering any effort at the bilateral level to bail out Europe and other countries which are debt-ridden,” Mr Meena said.
He said the G20 leaders at their meeting in November have decided to ensure that the IMF continues to have resources to enable it to play its systemic role.
In September, the BRICS finance ministers had said that the region is open to consider providing support through the IMF to address the present challenges to global financial stability, he added.
