The gross premium underwritten by non-life insurers increased 6.73 per cent to Rs 8,421 crore in April 2014 compared with Rs 7,890 crore in the year-ago period.
According to the monthly business figures released by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), the premium collected by the public sector general insurance companies increased 8.41 per cent to Rs 4,602 crore (Rs 4,245 crore).
Private sector non-life insurance premium stood at Rs 3,818 crore (Rs 3,644 crore), marking an increase of 4.77 per cent.
