Minimum temperatures rose across North India today, giving relief to residents reeling under a severe cold wave.

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant morning today after overnight rains lashed the capital, with the minimum temperature settling at a comfortable 10.5 degrees Celsius.

A cool breeze also blew across the city in the morning making Delhiites feel a bit of the chill but the clear skies and sun made it tolerable.

The rain gauges measured 4.2 mm till 8.30 am. The showers started around 11 pm yesterday. The rains were attributed to a western disturbance.

Today's minimum was 3 degrees Celsius above normal and up from yesterday's 9.5 degrees. Yesterday, the maximum was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius.

The mercury continued to rise in other parts of North India as well. Residents of Punjab and Haryana got some respite from the bitter cold as the minimum temperatures in the two States rose following two days of heavy rains.

Chandigarh, which received 12.8 mm of rains till this morning, recorded a minimum of 11.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, the Meteorological office said here.

Mercury rose in Punjab's Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala areas after the rains, where minimum temperatures settled at 10.4 degrees Celsius, 10.7 degrees Celsius and 10.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
