NTPC Ltd has threatened three Rajasthan electricity distribution companies — Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam — to cut supplies for non-payment of Rs 367 crore dues and not renewing letter of credit.
NTPC said it would curb the electricity supply of 1,258 MW. Else, it will regulate from the midnight of January 13.
The public sector power producers have issued a notice to three utilities on January 9. According to NTPC, these utilities need to pay nearly Rs 367 crore in addition to renewing letter of credit for Rs 121.20 crore.
This includes about Rs 95 crore to NTPC and a recent bill raised for Rs 272 crore.
"The allocation letters issued by the Government of India that in case of default in payment, NTPC has the right to shut off or restrict power supply from power stations...," the NTPC notice said.
