Of investigations, officers and scams

Our bureau Updated - March 12, 2018 at 12:51 PM.

It was a busy day for Courts, Central Bureau of Investigation, corporates and politicians in Andhra Pradesh.

In both the Emaar-MGF villa's case and the Obulapuram Mining Company scam, all the arrested high-profile people got no respite and their remand in judicial custody at the Chenchalguda jail has been extended up to March 7.

In the Obulapuram Mining Case, the high-ranking, suspended IAS officer, Ms Y. Srilakshmi, former Managing Director of A.P. Mining Development Company, Mr Rajagopal, former Karnataka Minister, Mr Gali Janardhana Reddy and the Obulapuram Managing Director, Mr Sreenivasa Reddy, have to continue their stay in the jail as the Court extended their remand today.

Similarly, in the Emaar Township Project case, the high ranking, suspended IAS officers, Mr B.P. Acharya, former Home Secretary has to continue in the jail. A executive of Emaar-MGF, Mr Vijayaraghava, Mr Koneru Prasad, a businessman and Mr Sunil Reddy are others who will have to cool their heels further.

The Emaar township case relates to sale of plots and villas to the rich and powerful, including politicians, filmstars, corporates etc. Mr Acharya and the Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Corporation are being held responsible for undervaluing the prices of plots and wilfully diluting the equity in the joint venture project with Emaar-MGF.

Meanwhile, in the disproportionate asset case relating to Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, MP, the industrialist and venture capitalist, Mr Nimmagadda Prasad was today questioned again by the CBI for over six hours. Mr Prasad of Matrix Holdings is supposed to have invested in some of the entities of Mr Jaganmohan and also initially promoted Vanpic (Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor) project. The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government had allocated nearly 15,000 acres of land to the project. In 2011, Mr Prasad sold his stake to Navayuga, a major infrastructure and port developer.

In the legislative Assembly, it was a war of words between the Telugu Desam party and ruling the Congress (I), with Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu levelling serious charges of corruption on some ministers and liquor scam involving many legislators.
