The Congress has criticised the high profile launch of “Come Make in India” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The party alleged that the policy of inviting manufacturers to start production in the country has been a national priority for many years. It said the Prime Minister made uncharitable references to the previous government forgetting the steps taken to provide incentives to manufacturers.

“He has not shown the grace of acknowledging India’s recent achievements and national policy initiatives with the similar objective in mind,” said former commerce minister and Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma.

Sharma said the entire state machinery has been mobilised to showcase the programme in India and throughout the world. He said the people of India should not be misled into believing that this is the first time India is embarking on this journey.

“Such a claim militates against the facts in public domain and tantamount to deliberately hiding institutional, policy and governance reforms of last few years,” Sharma added.

He said on October 24, 2011, the Cabinet had approved the National Manufacturing Policy with the objective to raise the share of manufacturing in GDP from 16 to 25 per cent.

“Today’s staged event is a restatement of the objectives and provisions of the National Manufacturing Policy,” he claimed.

Sharma added that the e-biz platform was formally launched to bring all services on board on January 20, 2014.
