The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 10 this year, three days before the Golden Globe awards are slated to be held.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that they will unveil the nominees five days earlier than the previously decided date.
“In an effort to provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated films, the Academy will reveal the 85th Academy Awards nominations on January 10, five days earlier than previously announced,” it said in a statement.
The previous date meant that the nominations would have been announced two days after the 70th Golden Globes which is to be held on January 13, 2013.
The Academy also announced that this would be the first time that the voting process for the Oscar awards will be done electronically.
“This will be the first time the Academy will provide its membership the opportunity to vote electronically. Together with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Everyone Counts, the Academy has been developing an electronic voting process for more than a year,” it said.
The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 24, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network.
