Over 550 acres distributed under ‘Bhoodan' scheme seized in Maharashtra

The Tehsildar of Yavatmal has confiscated over 550 acres which were distributed to landless labourers under ‘Bhoodan' but illegally transferred to builders and other persons by original beneficiaries or lying uncultivated for long.

The land, spread over three villages of Murzadi (500 acres), Moha (40) and Bhamraja (11), was seized over the past few weeks, the Tehsildar, Mr Rupesh Khandare, said today.

The land was obtained under Acharya Vinoba Bhave's Bhoodan (gifting land to the landless) movement. It had been distributed to the landless farm labourers on three conditions — the land is to be used for agriculture purpose only, not to be allowed to remain uncultivated or long and not to be transferred or sold to other persons, Mr Khandare said.
