Regional Provident Fund Commissioners have been asked to update all accounts by December 2011. Almost 14 crore accounts were pending updation on April 1, this year.
At the first-ever review meeting held here on Wednesday, Labour Minister, Mr Mallikarjun Kharge, said 4.72 crore accounts up to 2008-09 were likely to be updated online by July 15 to ensure more transparency.
Mr Kharge said the Employees Provident Fund Organisation would put the account balances of members on its Website so that balances can be checked up to the year the account was updated.
The Minister said settlement of claims within 30 days had improved over the previous year. However, his aim was to achieve 100 per cent settlement within 30 days. He said employers could now submit their returns and challans electronically, as it would speed up updating of accounts and claim settlements.
