The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will be visiting Dhaka on June 6, according to a report by leading Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo. The news was attributed to Bangladesh foreign ministry.
This is the first visit of Modi to Dhaka since assuming office in May 2014. The visit will be marked by the ratification of Land Boundary Agreement by the Indian Parliament. Also on the cards is Teesta Water Sharing Agreement.
Dhaka may also return the favour by offering India transit to North East. This will reduce the travelling distance from Kolkata to Agartala in Tripura from 1,573 km to approximately 350 km.
Travelling time by road will be reduced from two to three days to half-a-day.
