A meeting called by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to review the performance of the power and coal sectors on Monday has been postponed. No new date for the meeting has been proposed, government officials involved in the exercise said.

The meeting was to take stock of the progress of the ultra-mega power projects (UMPPs) and the financial crunch being faced by a number of electricity distribution utilities across States.

It was also expected to review the power capacity addition targets achieved during the current Plan period and take stock of the generation projects that have been stranded due to coal shortages.
