Various companies short-listed 3,772 candidates at a two-day job fair in Moodbidri of Dakshina Kannada district recently.
The Moodbidri-based Alva's Education Foundation had organised a job fair titled ‘ Alva's Pragati 2012' recently.
Mr Vivek Alva, Trustee of the foundation, said that nearly 16,450 candidates registered at the two-day fair.
Students with backgrounds ranging from diploma to post-graduation courses in various streams were short-listed at the fair.
As many as 137 employers from various sectors participated in the job fair.
He said that some of the major names in retail, information technology (IT), IT-enabled services, health and BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) sectors attended Alva's Pragati to select candidates.
Stating that there was good demand for nursing professionals at the job fair, he said more than 275 nurses were short-listed in the two-day fair.
Though the catchment area for the job fair was students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka, many students from rest of Karnataka and other States enrolled online.
He said there was good number of registrations from Tamil Nadu.
A Tamil Nadu-based company, which participated in the fair, was able to select candidates from that region only.
Stating that Alva's Education Foundation has been conducting job fair for the past two years, he said this is the third job fair at Moodbidri.
The number of short-listing of candidates for selection has been increasing every year, he said.
Mr Alva said the job fair has built a database of candidates.
This provided attributes such as qualifications, aspirations, skill set and location preference of the candidates to employers, he added.
