IT Minister says WBIDC will develop the hubs under the PPP model

West Bengal IT Minister, Mr Partha Chatterjee said today that the State Government has readied land for three hardware hubs.

They will be set up at Kalyani, Bolpur and West Midnapore and will be spread over nearly 20 acres each, Mr Chatterjee said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the four-day IT fair ‘Compass 2012' here.

Currently, the State has one hardware hub at Sonarpur, around 25 kilometres from Kolkata. This was set up during the erstwhile Left Front government.

“The State has land for these hardware hubs. Up to 60 small units can operate in each hub. These hubs will be developed by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation through a public-private partnership (PPP),” he added.

Incubation Centres

According to Mr Chatterjee, the State is also planning to open ‘incubation centres' in the proposed IT hubs at Bolpur, Siliguri and Durgapur to help the small the medium industries grow. “ These centres will be aimed at boosting the small players at the district level,” he said.

25% IT Share

The State Government is poised to achieve 25 per cent share of the country's IT revenue by 2015, thereby leveraging on its huge talent pool, Mr Chatterjee pointed out.
