The Draft National Land Acquisition And Rehabilitation & Resettlement Bill, 2011, will be placed before the Cabinet early next week. According to Mr Jairam Ramesh, Union Rural Development Minister, the Bill may be placed before Parliament in the current session.
“We plan to introduce the Bill before the Cabinet on Monday. We are looking forward to place the Bill in Parliament before the end of this session,” Mr Ramesh told Business Line on Saturday. The monsoon session of the Parliament ends on September 8.
The Union Minister on Saturday met the West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, to discuss the draft Bill. Following the meeting, Mr Ramesh told reporters that Ms Banerjee was broadly in agreement with the provisions and had praised the rehabilitation and resettlement norms.
“Ms. Banerjee has sought that State Governments be allowed to formulate their own land policies,” Mr Ramesh said.
