Ninety people, including academics, artists and lawyers, came together on Wednesday here to ask the Standing Committee of Parliament on the Lokpal Bill to consult a wide range of groups and individuals to enact the ‘best possible legislation'.
The group — including the former National Commission of Women Chairperson, Ms Mohini Giri; Justice Mr B.G. Kolse Patil; senior lawyer Mr Rajiv Dhavan; and Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat — said in a statement that views of marginalised groups must be incorporated into the legislation.
While commending Anna Hazare for his anti-graft crusade, they said, “No single group should claim that its members alone have the best legislative prescription for eradicating corruption.”
They flayed the “ham-handed” UPA Government for unprecedented levels of corruption.
The group also appealed to all political parties to come out with a clear statement on the Lokpal.
