Heavy rains today lashed Puducherry, prompting the administration to close all educational institutions in the Union Territory.
North-east monsoon brings in the bulk of annual rainfall in Puducherry which recorded 18.2 cm rain. Low-lying areas and several housing colonies on the peripherals of Puducherry were waterlogged.
Flow of traffic was less than normal in several parts of the Union Territory.
The Union Minister of State in PMO, Mr V. Narayanasamy, visited the rain-ravaged housing colonies for an assessment of the damage caused by the downpour.
The Local Administration Minister, Mr N.G. Panneerselvam, also visited the rain-hit pockets and ordered the municipal authorities to initiate immediate steps to pump out water from the low-lying areas and around housing colonies on the outskirts of Puducherry.
