The Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan are expected to meet by July this year, the Minister for External Affairs, Mr S.M. Krishna, indicated here on Monday.

“We hope to narrow the trust deficit between our nations and pave the way for normalisation of relations by addressing all outstanding issues and concerns, particularly those pertaining to terrorism. This menace has to be dealt with firmly and transparently for the common good of India and Pakistan, as well as, the region beyond. We have to be patient, realistic and positive,” the Minister said in a statement.

The statement was issued before the Minister left for an official visit to Myanmar. The statement adds that India and Myanmar will discuss about enhancing security cooperation and collaboration in fields of connectivity, IT, energy, agriculture, power, telecommunications and infrastructure during the visit. India and Myanmar were also likely to sign a number of memorandua of understanding of cooperation to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, the statement said.

The statement said the Kaladan multi-modal transit transport project had begun, and added that a few new projects were also proposed. Mr Krishna's visit will be the first high-level engagement with the newly established civilian Government in Myanmar after it assumed office in March this year.
