Pitroda sees no need for special status for Bihar

Press Trust of India Updated - November 15, 2017 at 10:36 AM.

There is no need to grant special category status to Bihar to help it woo private investment as the State has sufficient resources to develop on its own, Mr Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Pubic Information Infrastructure and Innovations, said today.

“Everybody is asking for special assistance, including States such as West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Bihar,” Mr Pitroda told newsmen here.

It is not possible for the Centre to meet such demands from all States as it has its own limitations, he said.

Referring to Bihar's contention that special category status will bring in private investment for industrial development, he said investors have a lot of options to set up industrial units across the country.

Investors take decision on setting up industrial units depending on the availability of various resources and infrastructure anywhere in the country.

Mr Pitroda, however, expressed confidence that Bihar has adequate resources at its disposal to develop on its own.

To a question about his roadmap for development in Bihar, Mr Pitroda said he was not in a position to advise the State government but would be happy to make suggestions if asked.
