The Sikkim government today formally withdrew a controversial Bill seeking a ban on public demonstrations, including sit-ins and processions.
The introduction of Sikkim Prevention and Control of Disturbance of Public Order Bill by the Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Kumar Chamling, on August 11 had led to widespread protests and demonstrations all over the State.
The Sikkim Governor, Mr Balmiki Prasad Singh, had also advised the government to withdraw the Bill which was described by Opposition political parties and social organisations as a ‘black Bill.'
