Silk Mark awareness programme begins today

Silk Mark Organisation of India will be organising a seven-day silk awareness programme along with Charutha Silks at North Paravoor from Saturday.

The programme includes an exhibition of natural silk production, weaving and sale of pure silks, Mr Babu Giridharan, Senior Executive, Silk Mark, said. The mela is being conducted with the aim of creating awareness among people on how to distinguish between pure silk and its imitations, he said.

Experts from the Silk Mark Organisation of India will educate the visitors and buyer on methods of identifying pure silk.

Silk Mark is a quality assurance label given by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, a society backed by the Central Silk Board, an apex body for development of silk industry in India.

The organisation has competent textile experts having expertise in silk testing and having industry experience behind them. It has 10 centres across the country located in major weaving clusters and cities having the silk tradition with adequate test facilities.

Silk Mark Organisation of India is headquartered in Bangalore and its aim is protect the interests of consumers, traders and manufacturers of pure silk. It is also aiming to build the brand equity of Indian silk.

The mela will also show craftsmen at work, weaving their intricate designs. A fascinating array of silk sarees, women's wear, men's wear, traditional wear would be exhibited, Charutha Silks Managing Director, Mr Basheer Kallelil, said.

The mela will be inaugurated by Ms Seela Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Managing Director of V Star Industries.
