The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the West Bengal Government to file an affidavit on July 8 against the petition by Tata Motors Ltd (TML) challenging the validity of the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act.

Mr Justice Soumitra Pal also directed TML to reply to the State Government affidavit on July 12. Hearing on the matter would start from July 14.

TML advocate, Mr Samaradittya Pal, on Thursday presented the certified copy of the interim order by the Supreme Court, issued on Wednesday directing the Bengal government to stop Singur land distribution till the High Court decides on the matter.

Meanwhile, the same High Court Bench also took up a petition from “willing farmers,” challenging the “maintainability” of the Singur Act. The Court asked the petitioner to submit an affidavit on July 15. The State Government would be required to reply by July 18. The matter would be heard from July 19.
