Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMR) has selected Spanish consultancy firm Eptisa Servicios de Ingenieria as the safety consultant for the metro rail project through international competitive bidding.
Based on the combined technical and financial score, Eptisa Ingenieria with its quote of Rs 1.3 crore has been selected, while Bureau Veritas, a French consultancy firm which quoted Rs 1.48 crore stood second in the combined score.
The safety consultant was selected by the HMR Tender Committee for Major Works headed by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director, Mr N.V.S. Reddy.
Safety audit
As a safety consultant, Eptisa Ingenieria will carry out safety audit of the designs, drawings, design basis reports (DBRs) and other documents prepared by the concessionaire L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMRHL) and its various consultants.
The safety aspects of the elevated viaduct (flyover like structure which accommodates the tracks), rail alignment, stations and other elevated structures of the metro rail system will be audited by this agency.
The initial safety audit is confined to the development (design) stage of the project and the safety related measures and other recommendations made by the safety consultant.
These will be incorporated in the designs by L&TMRHL under the technical supervision of Louis Berger, the independent engineer for the metro rail project.
This exercise will be completed in three months in parallel processing mode. Apart from a large number of international consultancy agencies working on the designs of different structures and components of the metrorRail project, L&T Metro Rail has also engaged the UK-based Halcro as its internal safety assessor for carrying out independent safety checks.
