Hyderabad, June 23 The Andhra Pradesh Government has asked the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) to conduct a study on the status of food processing industry and suggest ways to strengthen the industry.

With a large chunk of fruits and other horticulture commodities going waste in the absence of infrastructure, the Government would like to do an objective study into the subject.

“Lack of godowns, warehousing infrastructure and cold chain is resulting in wastage of agri-commodities. They will study the modalities to develop infrastructure in the State,’’ a senior Government official said.

Confirming this, Mr Dilip Modi, President of Assocham, told Business Line that the chamber would begin the study soon.

It is also planning to organise an investment conference during October-December 2011. “It will take 3-4 months to plan such events,’’ he said.
