AP Govt gives nod for prosecution of IAS official

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Thursday gave permission for the prosecution of IAS officer, Ms Y. Srilakshmi, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought the State Government's nod to prosecute the senior IAS officer for her alleged involvement in the illegal mining case pertaining to Obulapuram Mining Company owned by Mr Gali Janardhana Reddy, mining baron and former Karnataka Minister.

Ms Srilakshmi is currently lodged in the Chenchalguda jail. She was holding the rank of Principal Secretary when she was arrested in November 2011. The CBI, in the chargesheet, alleged that there were irregularities in the grant of mining leases in Anantapur to the company.

Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh Government had also given its nod for the prosecution of another senior IAS officer, Mr B.P. Acharya, who has been arrested by the CBI in the Emaar properties case. Mr Acharya, who was Home Secretary, is also in Chenchalguda jail.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, today approved the file seeking permission for prosecution of Ms Srilakshmi. In view of the serious charges against her, the Government has approved the prosecution, an official release said.
