Train services along the Eastern coastal regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh were disrupted this morning following a 12-hour strike called by BJP-led NDA to protest the hike in petrol prices.
According to a South Eastern Railway spokesperson, agitations at different areas of Odisha that include Soro, Rupsa, Jaleswar, Balasore and Basta stations affected train services in the wee hours.
Trains coming to and from Kharagpur, Adra (West Bengal) and Chakradharpur (Jharkhand) divisions were the worst-hit.
Express trains like Puri-Howah Sri Jagannath Express, New Delhi-Puri Express, Guwahati-Thiruvananthapuram Express were running late or have been stopped at some stations because of disruptions.
Eastern Railway section
Trains running along the Eastern Railway (ER) section witnessed similar disruption in the Sealdah and Howrah divisions (West Bengal).
The Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express suffered delay after being stopped at Janai in Hooghly in West Bengal, while the Howrah-Dhanbad Black Diamond Express started late from Howrah.
According to an ER spokesperson, normal train services resumed only after 9.30 am.
