A Bill to create a super medical authority by scrapping all other regulatory bodies was today introduced in Rajya Sabha by the Health Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill, 2011 proposes to bring all independent bodies such as Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Pharmacy Council of India and Nursing Council of India under the overarching council.
The Bill seeks to consolidate the law in certain disciplines of health sector and promote human resources in that sector and provide for mechanism for the determination, maintenance, coordination and regulation of standards of health education throughout the country.
It proposed to “establish the National Commission for Human Resources for Health to supervise and regulate professional councils in various disciplines of health sector.”
