Privatisation of the Delhi Jal Board which began on a pilot basis in select areas of the city remains unclear now, with the Aam Aadmi Party coming to power in Delhi.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party has opposed the privatisation and had promised a performance audit of the private contracts.
One of the key promises in its election manifesto was to make water a right for citizen.
Affordable price The party had promised to provide universal access to clean drinking water to all citizens of Delhi at an affordable price by amending the Delhi Jal Board Act. “AAP will make a time-bound plan of action for covering all residents of Delhi with piped water and sewage network in all parts irrespective of their legal status,” the party had said.
The promise of providing free lifeline water of upto 20 kl to every household was one that Kejriwal delivered immediately in his previous 49-day stint as the Chief Minister.
