The Minister for IT and Industries, Mr P. K. Kunhalikutty, has said that the e-District G2C (Government-to-Citizen) project of the Kerala State IT Mission will be rolled in all districts.
e-District aims at providing support to the basic administrative unit — the district administration — to develop content for the G2C services and their delivery through dedicated pipes.
The Minister made this announcement while addressing the valedictory function of the Akshaya (e-kendras) Day held here.
The State Government will extend all support to strengthen Akshaya activities in the State and inspire more people to take up self-employment. The State Government will also initiate discussions with the Akshaya team and other key people to ensure that the woes Akshaya entrepreneurs are addressed.
Kerala is the first State to launch and successfully roll-out Citizen Services Centres all over, Mr Kunhalikkutty said. The strength of Akshaya needs to be recognised, as it is the project of the future “where we envisage a paperless office and where services are available at the click of the mouse.”
REPLICATING MODEL
“We have come to a stage where other States and even countries are consulting us to replicate this model in their respective locations, which is a matter of great pride to all of us,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Korath Mathew, Director, Akshaya, said that as Akshaya enters the 10th year of operations, it is looking forward to enabling more services for citizens through the e-kendras.
“Other States have sought our help. The Department of IT, Kerala, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Lakshadweep administration to help them set up e-kendras and a citizen services network on the islands. Government of Karnataka too has expressed an interest to study the Akshaya model and have entrusted the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore to start a collaborative programme,” Mr Mathew said.
BIG ENTERPRISE
According to Mr K. S. Srinivas, Special Secretary, IT-Kerala, Akshaya has grown from a small initiative to a big enterprise and is now recognised nationally and internationally.
Mr A. Shajahan, Director, Kerala State IT Mission, observed that there was ample opportunity for all Akshaya entrepreneurs to make a reasonably good income as each one is allotted a specific area.
He quoted the example of some of the award winners for best e-governance services who have gone on to earn ‘appreciable revenue' through delivery of citizen services.
The Minister released the Akshaya souvenir at the function. It was attended by, among others, representatives of various Government departments and over 100 Akshaya entrepreneurs from across the State.
Among entrepreneurs who were awarded for best service delivery were teams from Wayanad and Pathanamthitta district for logging in the highest number of enrolment per team in Aaadhaar registrations.
