The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Union Ministry of Commerce, has added two more States under the Project eBiz, West Bengal and Rajasthan to its fold and expects to integrate the payment gateway in second half next year.

The eBiz Project has been initiated by the Commerce Ministry whose mandate is to simplify clearance and compliance process for industries in the country.

It has thus far covered five States — Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Maharashtra, in the pilot initiative and has recently added two more States, Mr Talleen Kumar, Joint Secretary, Government of India, said.

Speaking at an event hosted by the CII Andhra Pradesh, Mr Kumar outlined the salient features of this pan- India initiative whose main objective is to bring about transparency in clearance of projects through a single window interface.

He said that by November next year, all these States, with whom the project is now underway would have electronic payment gateway connectivity too, which would make its easier for all those who use it.

Apart from being a single interface point for industries seeking any information on any States, its larger mandate is to bring down compliance costs and improve business process significantly.

It would also help secure clearances early and monitor them on the Web.

“Since this process involves securing clearances from each State to integrate with the portal, we are in discussions with various State Governments. We hope to cover all the States in a phased manner,” he said.

“This is a complex process and involves integration with department processes and systems covering more than 54 services. Since it involves computerisation of departments before integration, it may take time in some States,” he explained.
