The Government has allowed family pensioners, including parents or spouse, to rectify their date of birth records in case of any anomaly, to ensure timely enhancement of the social security benefit to them.
According to a Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions circular, the head of the department where the deceased government servant served, can allow change in date of birth of family pensioner in the Pension Payment Order.
According to the circular, the beneficiary of family pension would have to submit a request with the head of the department concerned with age proofs including, PAN card, matriculation certificate, voter’s card and Aadhaar number and an affidavit in this regard.
As per the norms, the family pension is enhanced at the age of 80 years by 20 per cent of the amount being drawn by the beneficiary.
The family pension is increased by 10 per cent of the amount fixed initially, every time the beneficiary completes the age of 85, 90 and 95 years. The amount of pension is doubled when the family pensioner attains the age of 100 years.
In other words, if the pensioner is getting Rs 10,000 per month as pension then his family pension beneficiary would get Rs 6,000 per month.
In this case, the family pension will be increased to Rs 7,200 per month when the beneficiary would complete the age of 80 years. The amount would be further increased to Rs 7,800 per month at the age of 85 years and to Rs 8,400 per month at the age of 90 years.
The amount of pension would be increased by another 10 per cent or Rs 600 in this case to Rs 9,000 when the beneficiary completes the age of 95 years. The family pension would be doubled to Rs 12,000 per month at the age of 100 years.
