Include Swachh Bharat in next edition of Smart Cities India Expo : Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary

Focusing on the importance of cleanliness in the cities, a top official of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at an event on Wednesday said that for a city to be smart it also needs to be clean.

During the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Smart Cities India Expo 2019, Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said, “If a city is not clean, it cannot be smart”.

He also suggested that the organisers could include Swachh Bharat as part of the theme --in its next edition--apart from Buildings India, Solar India, Transport India and Water India.

Talking about the lack of resources in the cities at the three-day event, Mishra said, “Resources have never been a problem, the issue has been the optimum utilisation of these resources.”
