The Indian Foreign Secretary, Ms Nirupama Rao, and her Pakistani counterpart, Mr Salman Bashir, held very “cordial and positive discussions” here on Tuesday. The meeting comes a day ahead of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of both countries here.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said both the Foreign Secretaries reviewed the progress in talks between the different ministries and organisation of both countries in the preceding months.

The statement was, however, silent on the issues that were discussed at the meeting. After the Foreign Minister level talks, however, it is widely expected that some measures will be announced to improve people-to-people contacts.

The two countries are also expected to announce measures for improving communication problems for people of India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Ms Hina Rabbani Khar, reached here on Tuesday afternoon for the talks.
