The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J Jayalalithaa today laid the foundation stone for the establishment of Rs 100 crore national level Law School at her native Srirangam constituency.
While she had launched a School of Excellence in Law (in Chennai) earlier, the need for a School of Law arose to increase quality of legal education in the state to international standards, Ms Jayalalithaa said.
“I am happy to lay the foundation stone for the Rs 100 crore National Law School coming up over 25 acres at Navalur Kuttapattu,” she said.
At a government function held here, the Chief Minister said the state Assembly had passed an Act for the establishment of such an institution.
A total of eight law colleges including a private institution were functioning in the state and these were affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, she added.
Ms Jayalalithaa also launched a series of welfare activities including her party’s flagship programme of providing fan and mixer free of cost, at a total cost of Rs 240 crore.
