The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has proposed an across-the-board hike in tariff for all classes of consumers.
The public utility proposes to raise additional revenue of Rs 1,550.35 crore as per a tariff petition filed before the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The KSEB said it anticipated a revenue gap of Rs 3,240.25 crore during 2012-13, but has proposed to make good to the extent of Rs 155.35 crore only.
It has requested the regulator that the remaining be treated as ‘a regulatory asset’ for being passed on to the consumer at a later period.
The tariff is sought to be raised from Rs 1.15 per unit to Rs 1.50 for consumers using up to 40 units a month.
At the other end, the KSEB has proposed a hike from Rs 5.45 per unit to Rs 7 per unit for consumers using more than 500 units a month.
