The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2014 through a voice vote. This Bill has 14 amendments to the existing company law enacted in 2013.
Replying to the discussions on this Bill in the lower house, Jaitley said four kinds of changes were sought to be
made through these amendments.
While some were intended at improving the ease of business, some were focused on addressing the drafting errors.
There were also amendments being introduced to tackle the "oversight" issues and those provisions seen to be "oppressive" for doing business.
The Opposition parties' demand that the Bill be referred to Standing Committee was however not accepted and the Bill was passed.
