The Union Cabinet is expected to meet on Monday to discuss the Lokpal Bill and it could be tabled in the Parliament on Tuesday.
Ahead of this crucial meeting tomorrow, senior UPA ministers met on Sunday to finalise the Lokpal draft. Sources said that the Government may propose the inclusion of Group C employees within the Lokpal’s ambit, as also the inclusion of Prime Minister with certain safeguards. A compromise formula may also be worked out with regard to the contentious issue of inclusion of the Central Bureau of Investigation within the Lokpal’s purview, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Congress spokesman Mr Abhishek Singhvi said that “A government can only bring a Bill in Parliament. No government can guarantee its passage. Let us see how the forthcoming week evolves."
His comments come at a time when Anna Hazare has stepped up the pressure on the Lokpal issue and has threatened to sit on a fast from December 27, if the Lokpal Bill is not passed in Winter Session of Parliament.
