With lorry strike entering the fifth day, arrival of hosiery products here have taken a hit and tanned leather is also piling up.
According to trade sources, only 15 per cent of the lorries is operated locally in the district, while the rest have been parked at the lorry stand and other places in the district.
Usually on Monday night and Tuesday morning, more than Rs 50 lakh worth of hosiery products will arrive at the Hosiery market situated in Erode town. But because of the truckers strike there were limited stocks and few buyers.
Similarly, the textile market also wore a deserted look. Leather tanners said that huge quantities of tanned leather have piled up in their factories.
Vegetable wholesale merchants said onion and other vegetables transported from North India will become scarce after Thursday if the stir continues.
