The West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, on Saturday celebrated her one year in power in the state.
Trinamool Congress’ ally the Congress, has however, refrained from joining the celebrations thereby fuelling rumours of a strained relationship between the two.
None of the Congress’ Cabinet ministers were present for the celebrations.
The celebrations were marked by a fair at the Milan Mela fair ground premises here. The fair was inaugurated by the Chief Minister and the Governor, Mr M.K. Narayanan.
The week-long fair will have stalls by 60-odd departments of the State Government and highlight the Government’s achievements in this one year.
According to the Chief Secretary, Mr Samar Ghosh, the new government has been able to resolve the problems of Maoism in the three southern districts of the state as well as resolve the secessionist movement in the Darjeeling hills region.
According to the Governor, bringing in the Singur Act, restoring peace in Darjeeling and Junglemahal were the three most important tangible achievements of the one-year government.
